Friendship, Loyalty and Betrayal

Me and Holly found 10 quotes from the book that correspond with the three things in the title.
Friendship; Sat at the tree, Amir reads to Hassan, ''As I read to Hassan stories he could not read himself'', Baba's acceptance of Amir after he wins the tournament ''Then a smile played on fathers lips''.
Now Loyalty, Hassan sacrifising himself, which fits in with Betrayal as well. ''Just around the corner I could hear Assef's quick rhythmetic grunts'', Hassan crushing pomegrante on his forehead because he doesn't want to fight, ''He opened it and crushed it against his own forehead''.
Now Betrayal, which has the most in it, Starting of with the rape, that is the betrayal of Amir, He doesn't want to teach Hassan english '' When he came across a big word he didn't know i would tease him'', The watch under the matress, ''I lifted Hassan's matres up and planted my new watch and a handful of Afghan bills'', Hassna lies about the watch and money in order to save Amir, this can also be put in Loyalty and Friendship, ''Hassan's reply was a sinlge word delivered wih a thin, raspy voice,''Yes'' '', the last one we found was Hassan's letter to Amir which is in all three, ''May Allah be with you always, Hassan''. this one is in all three because it reminds Amir of Hassan which then reminds him of the most terrible thing that he he did, it is loyalty because despite what happened between them Hassan still wants to be in contact with Amir, which also shows Friendship.

Cover Teacher.

Sorry i forgot to post, i didn't have Mr. Francis breathing down my neck telling me to do it. Well the cover teacher was lovely, our lessons were fun but educational. My favorite was the second lesson which is where we made a little poem based on Hassan, some people were away o we had a nice little group. The other lesosns were nice, like the first one we wrote down some characteristics of some characters like Amir and Baba, this helped me understand some of the character a bit more because i got some different ideas from the other students, and some lovely graphic pictures (Steph). The third lesson we looked at Assef a bit more in depth which was useful as well. We got to grips on how he is a crazy.
So sorry i forgot.

Assef

In chapter 22, Assef was the main focus. There was some foreshadowing at the start of the chapter, foreshadowing the horror that would come Amir's way 'the last bit of solid food I would eat for a long time.' this tells the reader that something bad is on it's way. 'Wearing his dark John Lennon glasses', shows he is out of place in Afghanistan. The character is being described as horrile and nasty, he is a very dark character, 'you enjoy the show today?' he is taking pleasure in executions. when Sohrab comes out he is very touchy with him, almost as if he wants to do other things with him, this makes the reader discusted with Assef becuase what he does is beyong wrong, 'slid up and down the boys belly'. Sohrab is innocent and small in this chapter, when he dances he is very graceful. The point where Assef says ''old babalu'' the reader knows that it is Assef that is sat opposite Amir. Assef tells Amir about when he was laughing when he was being beaten up in the prison, later in the chapter Assef beats up Amir and Amir starts laughing. Assef said that God was on his side, it is now the case that God is on Amir's side, God wants Amir to persevere in getting Sohrab out of that plae and away from Assef. 'for the first time since the winter of 1975, I felt at peace.' The guilt is lifted, he is finally free of the guilt.  Even though he is physically beaten and 'broken' he feels healed in his heart.
Sohrab finally stands up for Amir, much like Hassan did all of the time. Sohrab hits Assef in the eye, where Hassan threatened to hit Assef. Assef has finally been beaten and destroyed, by a little child, not a man, a child. He is definitely his fathers son, courageous and fearful.
